membership will consider buying an updated one. These clubs also help insure and protect the resale value of the cars they collect. Mustang collectors put up with some hard times with the Mustand II but they still collected. When Ford was looking for a car that would symbolize the new vibrancy of the corporation, Mustang came to mind. They deserve a lot of credit, because they could determine the visual and performance cues that made a Mustang a Mustang, and put them in the new one! Thanx,Peter

That's a great history, Peter, couldn't say it better myself! The two seaters were a triumph at the time, but they had to go to a 4 or 5 place car. 2 seaters just don't sell well enough to continue their existance, with the exception of the Corvette. I think the reason the Corvette and Mustang have survived is because the owners have organized and formed clubs. These clubs are VERY influential and the car companies know that if they put a decent product out there, at least the club continued-

Part 2: The Mustang made a time in the 60s/early 70s the same way, then became in opposite smaller and strange for a long time , and now it´s back to the roots and one of the most beautiful sportive cars I know. The Mustang survived every period and became again a brilliant car. That is a rare but successful model history (45 years!) Perhaps because the Mustang saved the Ford Company "he" is a bit something like "holy" for them. We all remember the Edsel debacle before the Mustang came....

Very true ! Best example: The Thunderbird. At the end 50s one of the most beautiful and best designed 2-seats sportscar worlwide. From then on Ford added and added more and more from one model to the next. At least it was a BIG cruiser with full 4/5 seats related to the big Buick or Pontiac Coupes. I have to admit that also the design of the big Thunderbirds kept unique and more beautiful than the competition cars, but where was gone the real Thunderbird and the concept. I continue.......

Yes, you can see the trend toward a personal luxury car here, to do battle with the Grand Prix and Riviera. Ford had a tendency to keep adding on to the original concept, and not bothering to maintain a consistency of purpose. Everyone was looking over their shoulder in those days, making sure they had a product to directly compete in the market. Thanks for the comment, Peter! :) Jack

Also nice ! But the 1967 is much much more the classical Cougar and has a much more better interior style.

I think that's all it was, Brian! Sounds impressive, though! :) Jack

Misled by an allegedly authoritive TV show(Car abd Driver Television)I'd been thinking "XR7" was more than a trim package...But,alas,it appears that a trim package is all XR7 ever was.

I'd heard somewhere, that the sequence of the taillights was contolled by connections on a tube(similar to the cardboard tube in the middle of a roll of toilet paper)When you moved the turn indicator stick on the steering column, the tube would start spinningand---VOILA!..sequential tail lights.
