well of course, government didn't really care about the students, it is the fact that workers and civilians were showing sympathy and support to students alerted the government. After attempts to peacefully put it off (army tried to enter city unarmed, they tried to enter city with weapons carried separately, then some weapons got hijacked) finally they decided to go all out.
moxinghbian on November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am
Exactly, Those students were doing is not "protest", They are "striking".
They wanted to see government officials, they had thier list of demands, They wanted to see member of congresses, they listed more demands, they then wanted to see the Head of the state. well, they met all the above mentioned, but.. not enough!
because not all 16 demands were met, let's hunger strike and elicit more people to join us. after 2 months of this, government went nuts: "fuck this, kill them all!"

The general idea of a protest is to bring public awareness to a situation. Take The Tiananmen Square Massacre for example, public and international pressure was defiantly put on the Chinese government for their actions. In Europe and here in the United States public protest is common and takes many forms, such as environmental protest, civil rights, political, war protest and many other. Protest is not to be confused with a 'strike'.

I m a Chinese, and I am not sure about this "protest"
When you protest, how long does it take? a day a week a month?
When you protest, do you demand to meet the president or the governor?
Do you keep on protesting until all your demands are met?

in my opinion chairman mao's picture should be removed and replaced by a still of this video.this is the true spirit and heart of the chinese people to stand in front of a row of tanks against the odds.
this is the type of bravery that defeated the Japanese with a little help from are uk and usa allies. |
